CAROLINA BASEBALL

Charlotte, NC

Our day begins with a visit to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a stunning museum for racing fans in Uptown Charlotte. We then cover a lot of ground in Uptown and surrounding neighborhoods on a Charlotte Segway Tour.

NASCAR Hall of Fame

Opened in 2010, the NASCAR Hall of Fame is a sharp, modern museum honoring the drivers, cars, crews, broadcasters, and technology of the sport.

Charlotte Segway Tour

After lunch, we met up with our scheduled Segway Tour in Uptown Charlotte. We started at the historic heart of the city, at the corner of Trade and Tryon, where three statues (Transportation, Commerce, and Industry) represent elements of the past that have built modern Charlotte -- all looking at the fourth statue, The Future.

A quick turn off the busy intersections and we were in an old neighborhood with homes dating back nearly 250 years.

We then steered into Fourth Ward park, a serene spot amidst the high-rise growth of Uptown.

We then headed back to the bustle, passing BB&T Ballpark — the site of our afternoon game the next day — before turning towards the arts district, with several museums and theatres all within a two-block radius. We stopped in front of the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and admired the striking sculpture in front: The Firebird or Le Grand Oiseau de Feu sur l'Arche by French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle.

We ended our tour on The Green, a simple urban park with a fountain. We’d had a big day already, but now it was time to drive west to Gastonia and meet a TV news crew assigned to cover our story.
